Zi Yu Ren, lawyer and technical patent advisor, recently had the opportunity to contribute to Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle (CPI), Canada’s leading French-language journal, published by Les Éditions Yvon Blais.
The article entitled “AI and patents: the aftermath of the DABUS saga and other developments” explores the legal implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of patents, focusing on the aftermath of the DABUS saga and recent developments in Canada and abroad.
It thus examines the positions adopted by various jurisdictions regarding the possibility of designating an AI system as an inventor, and analyzes the issues associated with such recognition, particularly with regard to the patentability of inventions depending on the degree of AI involvement.
